Chapter 16

Kyle

Kyle watched Kendra walk into the third dress shop of the day. While she was busy spending her husband’s money, he was busy trying to figure out a way to get the man to someplace secluded. He had managed to go undetected and decided not to approach her with the day of the kill coming up.

He had already scoped out the perfect place to bring Tate, an older mini-storage, and he had even found some of the units half open. He didn’t know if the rundown place was no longer in business or if whoever owned it had let it fall into disrepair, but it was just the spot he needed. Not only was it off the beaten path, hidden along a short, barely used route, but there wasn’t even a gate around the fucking place. Lucky him.

And as if his day hadn’t been perfect enough, he’d spotted Kendra at the strip mall, a smile on her face and not a care in the fucking world. But he couldn’t let himself get too distracted. He had work to do, and the sooner he got it all done, the better.

He had already checked out the ceiling of the unit he wanted to use, and he picked up a lock to make sure he could close it up and get back in as needed.

Once he had everything, he drove out to the mini-storage and then parked around back. The area was secluded, and no one would expect that he was back there. There were a few broken bottles, most likely from a bunch of drunk teens. He wondered if that was the local hangout or the best place to do deals, but it didn’t look like anyone had driven out to the place in a long time.

He got out of the car and went into the storage unit. Inside, someone had left an old headboard and a couple of broken-down boxes. A lot of leaves had blown in under the door that had been left open for no telling how many months.

He pulled the door down, making sure it would close all the way, then lifted it again before going back inside. It was going to work out. He took one of the boxes that
